Great deal on Toro Recycler tune-up kit + blade

If you need any common maintenance parts for your Toro Recycler mower, the Briggs & Stratton tune-up kit with Toro blade may be a good investment.

The kits sells on Amazon right now for $23.96, and it includes parts that are worth much more than that combined.  A new Recycler blade typically costs between $15 and $20 by itself, and this kit comes with a blade, an air filter, a spark plug, and a bottle of Briggs & Stratton engine oil.  Here are the part numbers for the different parts that are included, so you can make sure they fit your Recycler model:

- Blade: 131-4547-03 (replaces blade #108-9764-03)
- Air filter: 491588S
- Spark plug: J19LM (Champion)
- Oil: 18 ounces of SAE 30 engine oil

This tune-up kit is compatible with many different models of Toro mowers, including the following models: 20110, 20111, 20112, 20113, 20330, 20331, 20332, 20333, 20334, 20339, 20350, 20351, and 20352.

UPDATE: I received one of these kits today, and there are some noticeable differences from how the product is described on Amazon:
   - The spark plug is not a Champion J19LM but rather an NGK 5798 BR2-LM; compatible and functionally equivalent, but not identical.
   - The oil is not Briggs & Stratton oil, but rather Toro oil.  Again, not a big deal -- it's still 18 ounces of SAE 30 engine oil -- but it's still not as described.

One interesting thing to note is that the air filter comes unwrapped.  While that's probably okay, it's not ideal... you don't want the thing responsible for keeping dust and dirt out of your engine sitting open and exposed in a cardboard box.

On the upside, the kit comes with a small package (0.5 oz) of Toro fuel treatment (enough for a single use).

I would still recommend this kit as a good value, especially if you're going to be buying the blade anyway.

How to replace the air filter on a Toro 20339 / 20339C 22" Recycler Lawn Mower with SmartStow

NOTE: The instructions below apply to mowers with serial numbers 314999999 or lower that use the old-style Briggs & Stratton 128M02-0017-F1 engine. If your mower has a higher serial number, or uses the newer Briggs & Stratton 104M02-0131-F1 engine, you'll need a different air filter (P/N 593260) and the instructions below will not apply.

Replacing the air filter on a Toro 22" Recycler Lawn Mower with SmartStow (model #20339 or 20339C) is very easy to do.  It only takes about five minutes, and you just need the new air filter (P/N 491588S) and either a slotted screwdriver or a 7mm nut driver.

The air filter is located on the left side of the engine as you're standing in front of it.  There is a black plastic cover protecting the air filter.  One screw secures the cover; remove it with your screwdriver.

Now remove the cover by pulling it out from the top.  The air filter will be exposed -- a flat-style air filter composed of pleated paper.  Remove the filter, and if you have a rag or paper towel handy, wipe down the air filter housing to remove any dust or debris.  You can also wipe off the air filter cover.

Install the new air filter, setting it into the housing so that the pleats face outward, away from the engine.  It should fit snugly.  Once the filter is in place, reattach the cover, making sure the screw hole lines up with the hole in the engine frame.  Then put the screw back in and tighten it so the cover doesn't wiggle at all.

How to replace a Toro 20332 Recycler Lawn Mower air filter

The air filter on a lawn mower is responsible for allowing clean air into the engine.  The filter does two things - it lets the right amount of air in to mix with the fuel in the engine, and it keeps out dust and dirt particles that could prevent the mower from running efficiently and could also cause internal engine damage.  The air filter should be cleaned or replaced regularly.  If it gets clogged up it can prevent enough air from entering the engine, which may cause starting or running problems.

Replacing the air filter on a Toro 22" Personal Pace Recycler Mower (model #20332) is an easy task that just about any owner can do themselves.  The only things you'll need are the new air filter (part #491588s) and a flathead screwdriver.  It should only take a few minutes to install the new air filter.

As you're standing in front of the lawn mower, the air filter is located on the left side of the engine.  It is a flat air filter, covered by a black plastic cover.  There's one hex head screw holding the cover on.  This screw is located in the top middle area of the air filter cover; remove it with your flathead screwdriver.

With the screw out, you can remove the cover by pulling it out from the top.  The air filter will now be exposed - a flat style air filter made up of pleated paper.  Remove this filter, and if you have a rag or paper towel handy, wipe down the air filter housing to remove any dust or debris.  It's also a good idea to wipe down the air filter cover.
